Sangamon Clean-up

The USRC is organizing a cleanup on the Sangamon River on Sunday, September 13, departing at 8:30 am and cleaning the river from the Historic Hazen Bridge on the river down to Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, about a 5 mile stretch.
End time of 3:00 pm should be viewed as approximate.
We’re only looking for about 25 volunteers given the conditions on the river on this stretch. All volunteers should be skilled at paddling a canoe or kayak. This isn’t a beginner’s trip.
For your efforts, we’re offering a free lunch at the end of the trip for all participants!
You can bring your own watercraft (kayak or canoe) or use one of ours, which we’ll issue on a first-come, first-serve basis. We prefer people to be in canoes so that we can haul the trash we clean up, but kayaks are welcome to join in.
If you’re interested and willing to commit to participate, please send an email to Scott Hays at sphays12@gmail.com. Let him know if you want to use one of our canoes or would prefer a kayak, or let him know if you’re bringing your own. We’ll be transporting people and boats to the put-in at the Hazen Bridge since there is no parking available there.
