Join the newly forming USRC River Runners and join us for the first float trip launched from the nearly-complete canoe and kayak launch at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve near the Izaak Walton Cabin. We have kayaks available and canoes available for experienced canoe paddlers only. All Watercraft are provided for FREE by the USRC.
Everyone registering for this trip will be considered a “member” of the USRC River Runners, a newly forming group of paddlers interested in USRC-sponsored activities on the Sangamon River.
Endpoint will be at the Village of Mahomet Sangamon Greenway boat launch at SR47 and the Sangamon River in Mahomet.
All interested participants MUST register here on this site for FREE. Whether you are using a canoe (two people; at least one must be an experienced canoe paddler), a kayak (one person) or bringing your own watercraft.
Meetup will be at the Lake of the Woods launch site in adequate time for a 10am departure. The time on the river is estimated at two hours. There may be hazards and/or blockages on the river requiring portages. Please allow three hours or more total time for this outing.
To get to the Lake of the Woods launch, follow signs toward the Izaak Walton Cabin. Continue on the road past the cabin on the left and down to the large open gravel parking area for the new boat launch.
If you wish to park your vehicle at the endpoint and ride up with the morning ‘endpoint shuttle’ please be at the Sangamon Greenway parking lot in time for a 9:30 shuttle departure.
We hope to see you on the river!
