The USRC River Runners are doing our first exploratory float downriver to check our river conditions for the summer season on Saturday, April 30 from 11-3. Registration through this form is REQUIRED for all participants.

We will put in by 11 am at the home of River Runners Captain, Scott Hays on the Sangamon River, which is between the Hazen Bridge and Lake of the Woods, and take out at the Sangamon Greenway canoe landing where IL 47/Division Street crosses the Sangamon River.

Bring your own watercraft or borrow one of ours. You can borrow a canoe or kayak. You must indicate your choice on the registratioon form below.

You may park at the takeout – the Sangamon Greenway – and catch a pre-ride up to Riverwood for departure. If you are bringing your own watercraft, you would need to drop it at Riverwood before that. Drivers will depart the Greenway by 10:30.

Otherwise, park and depart from Riverwood and you can catch a return ride back to Riverwood at the end. We will arrange watercraft transport via the USRC transport trailer or other means.

The River Runners are a new group of USRC paddlers who are familiar with paddling on the Sangamon River and know basic watercraft safety. River Runners know how to maneuver paddlecraft on moving water and around obstacles which mostly include logs and trees. River Runners must be able to handle sometimes challenging portages and have knowledge of river currents including siphons which can trap and capsize watercraft under fallen trees. Good knowledge and training are essential to a safe Sangamon River experience.

Thanks,

Scott Hays
