SUMMARY:Invasive Removal
DESCRIPTION:Join USRC volunteers for our last scheduled invasive removal workday of 2024 at Mahomet Greenway Park (1404 S. Division St.).  We will meet at the Greenway parking lot on Sunday\, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. and walk to the work site—if you arrive after 10:00\, walk east along the tree line and follow the signs.  We will be cutting the remaining honeysuckle stumps and pulling small plants by hand or with the Extractigators.  Wear sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather.  USRC will provide all tools and have gloves available.

DESCRIPTION:Please join Upper Sangamon River Conservancy volunteers for our next Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on Saturday\, August 17. Our target area is Highway 47 north of Mahomet and the ramps of the I-74 interchange\, all of which drains into the Sangamon River. Meet at the former Hen House parking lot at 9:00 a.m.  USRC will provide safety vests\, trash bags\, and hand grabbers.  Wear appropriate clothing—shoes that may get wet\, gloves\, hat\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen if needed. \nContact Joe at joeniernberger@outlook.com if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:River Runners Paddle
DESCRIPTION:The next Sangamon paddle excursion\, departs from the Hazen Bridge at 9:30am. We’ll take out at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve. The trip is limited to 14 participants.\n\nREQUIRED FREE registration opens noon July 26 until filled. Please read our Liability Waiver before filling out the RSVP. You must acknowledge having read and accept to complete registration.\n\nThe USRC provides up to 3 canoes and 8 kayaks\, with paddles and floatation\, and will transport them. We welcome paddlers who bring their own kayak or canoe\, but they should plan to transport their watercraft.\n\nThere is no parking at Hazen Bridge\, so everyone will need to park at the LOW kayak launch by 9:00 am. BYO’s will need to allow time to drop their watercraft at the starting point\, and drive to and park at the take-out. We will provide transport to Hazen Bridge.\n\nAll paddlers must be adults or accompanied by an adult\, and be experienced and able to properly handle their watercraft on moving water. Personal floatation devices are required while on the water. The Sangamon may seem like a lazy river\, but like all rivers\, she can surprise you very quickly. We encourage you to review the Water Safety Resources on our Paddler’s Information page.\n\nUSRC does not charge for these events\, but encourages everyone to make a voluntary donation by clicking the “Donate” button on this page. DESCRIPTION:The RiverWatch Open Lab is an opportunity for those who have participated in RiverWatch invertebrate monitoring to help with sorting\, identifying and counting the invertebrate samples that were collected this monitoring season. Microscopes and a RiverWatch associate will be on hand to assist at the open lab. If have participated in any of the invertebrate monitoring events\, then you are eligible to take part in the open lab.
